"Self-sufficiency does not mean 'going back' to the acceptance of a lower standard of living. On the contrary, it is the striving for a higher standard of living, for food that is organically grown and good, for the good life in pleasant surroundings... and for the satisfaction that comes from doing difficult and intricate jobs well and successfully." Blessed

I was bemoaning the lack of rain.

This month so far we have had 148 mm fall from the heavens, with another 10 - 15 mm predicted for next week.  That will result in the highest ever rainfall for one month since we moved here at the end of June 2012.

One of the things I love about winter, and the cloudy skies, are the stunning sunrises...
Sunrise
... and sunsets.  When we lived in town we had a mountain between us and the sunrise, and another mountain between us and the sunset.  I was starved for both.

Now...

I just sit back and enjoy...

... and try and capture as many as I can on my camera.

It's not the same as seeing them "live" but, it is better than none - and they help me get through summer when they are in short supply :)

How blessed are we to be able to enjoy such incredible beauty!

  1. I've always thought, based on your picture in the blog header, that you have a particularly beautiful view from your place. To get a similar view, I go out behind my shop, walked up the top of my meadow, and I can see out into the mountains. I drink my coffee up there sometimes.

    1. Ah, but Harry, the clouds and the sunrise / sunset always add a je ne sais quois to a view, don't they :)

Yeah, we sit on our front patio to see either view...

Dani - i am so glad that you have been getting such wonderful rain! and your sunsets/sunrises are beautiful! it's so interesting to have connected through blogs and be able to see all the different places in the world. your part of the world is so much more different than Harry's, Harry's is so much different from ours and all vice versa. i love seeing all of the different places that i would have never seen if it weren't for blogs! sending much love, as always! your friend,

  4. Dani, there's something particularly beautiful about sunset. Your pictures are beautiful and make your homeland seem so vast. I must have fifty photos of sunsets from one corner of our garden and I've only lived here 18 months.

    1. Kirsty - we've only been here 3 years - on Monday week. I have been so starved of sunrises and sunsets for 18 years, I cannot get enough of them...

Yes, South Africa is a vast country, and the skies are even vaster lol

Thank you for taking the time to comment - it makes my day and removes the "loneliness' of sitting at my screen blogging supposedly to myself ;) I try and reply as quickly as possible so please forgive me if sometimes my response is delayed.
