"Self-sufficiency does not mean 'going back' to the acceptance of a lower standard of living. On the contrary, it is the striving for a higher standard of living, for food that is organically grown and good, for the good life in pleasant surroundings... and for the satisfaction that comes from doing difficult and intricate jobs well and successfully." Sunrise, sunset...

Winter is heading our way.

Apart from the slowly changing temperature, how do I know?

Well, it's the only time we get stunning sunrise and sunset views due to the cloudy skies.

Sunrise - with misty valleys...

...sunset - with stunning skies.

Love it :)

Now, if only those clouds could disperse their promise...

  2. What absolutely beautiful skies. I have a photo of my great-grandmother, standing in the doorway of the log cabin where she lived with her family, looking out. Family legend says she could be found there every evening, watching the sun set. I can't think of a better way to close the day.

    1. Vicki - That is a lovely image with which to remember your great-gran. How did you enjoy your excursion outside yesterday? I'm so glad you're feeling better and are back to "normal' :)

  3. Thanks for asking, Dani...It was wonderful! Just to finally be rid of the bandages and be able to wear shoes again is monumental. I had a nice walk along the river and I plan to go out walking every day. Early mornings are best. I get to watch the sunrise and have the town mostly to myself!

  5. Dani - your landscape is sooo very different from ours (of course!) and i love seeing pics of it! those are beautiful sky pics! in the second picture - that's mist??? it's the strangest looking mist i have ever seen!

we just got dumped with another 15cms of snow!!! we NEVER have snow this late in the year! but down on the mainland they have had to close schools and businesses for almost a month because they have nowhere to put the incredible amounts of snow they have been getting all winter. our snow is very pretty...but i am just tired of looking at it. normally by the beginning of march the snow is all gone. this has been a crazy winter.

anyway, sending much love your way and i'll do a raindance for you! your friend,
    kymber

    1. kymber - The mist is lying in all the stream / river valleys. An inversion layer?

Another 15cms snow - wow! I'm sure the kids were thrilled with the school closures - and the parents not so happy lol Hopefully, this winter will be a good snowy one on this side of the planet too :)

  6. Your part of South Africa is really beautiful. I could sit on the porch and smoke my pipe there, and feel right at home. Except there aren't as many trees......

Thank you for taking the time to comment - it makes my day and removes the "loneliness' of sitting at my screen blogging supposedly to myself ;) I try and reply as quickly as possible so please forgive me if sometimes my response is delayed.
