"Self-sufficiency does not mean 'going back' to the acceptance of a lower standard of living. On the contrary, it is the striving for a higher standard of living, for food that is organically grown and good, for the good life in pleasant surroundings... and for the satisfaction that comes from doing difficult and intricate jobs well and successfully." John Seymour ~ Self Sufficiency 2003

Abnormal

These pics were taken at 13.36 p.m. today
The temperature
outside in the shade
We have never had temperatures in the 40's before (104oF)

I can only imagine the temperature at 2.30 - 3.00 p.m.

28.3oC on 01/02/2016 or...
Thank goodness for our double volume and double glazing...
...28.3oC at 13:36:24 p.m.
The temperature inside the house is a more comfortable 28.3oC

Poor Tweedle Dee and CLuck were not happy egg layers - plus they decided to crowd into one laying box, thus were even more uncomfortable...

Never mind, they had a treat when they had completed their task ;)

  1. Crikey! How do the 'pacas take it?
And thanks for your kind comment earlier - sorry if I sounded overly grim in the post!

    1. Quinn - Miraanda (the "old lady") was catching some rays, and Carly was in the shade. The two boys - they were under the tree in their paddock. When RMan went out with a hosepipe they all had their tummies splashed - which cools them down. Then Carly proceeded to cush in the damp soil.

No worries - we all have those kinds or days / weeks / times in our lives. Hope you are feeling more like your normal self soon.

  2. Hot temperatures are hard on everybody. Ferrets are particularly susceptible to dieing if they get hot. Last summer when it was so hellish I could not keep the upper levels of the house below 70 so I moved them down to the lowest level which is below ground on two sides and much cooler. Some of the older chickens didn't make it even though they sheltered in the forest.

    1. Harry - Hot weather is terrible. As least when your cold, you can add layers, but heat...!?!

Our beauts (alpacas) decided to catch some zzz's in the sun during the hottest period of the day. Strange animals.

    2. My neighbour says the heat is turning us into vampires. We only leave the house at night to do the gardening.

Thank you for taking the time to comment - it makes my day and removes the "loneliness' of sitting at my screen blogging supposedly to myself ;) I try and reply as quickly as possible so please forgive me if sometimes my response is delayed.
