"Self-sufficiency does not mean 'going back' to the acceptance of a lower standard of living. On the contrary, it is the striving for a higher standard of living, for food that is organically grown and good, for the good life in pleasant surroundings... and for the satisfaction that comes from doing difficult and intricate jobs well and successfully." John Seymour ~ Self Sufficiency 2003

Going down...

Seriously, this is just a publicized example of Global warming / extreme weather / climate change.  But, imagine all those places round the world that aren't "important", aren't in a "rich" state in a 1st World country and are therefore not publicized...?!!!  Those places are home to many people.  People who may be misplaced / be forced to move to the nearest source of life giving liquid as their situation deteriorates further and further...

I have been told that the term "climate change" has a different connotation in the US of A - a more political overtone - and one which has hijacked the reality and is misdirecting the focus of what is a definite world wide life threatening situation - thereby deterring many people from making their individual contribution to helping this planet.

But, the following links can't be denied.

There are 7 before and after pics on the above site.  Very real, and scary stuff - seriously!

And, for a town that has been without water since July last year...

Please, clink on the links, share the information you receive from them via your blogs / facebook page / any which way you can and make as many people aware as possible.

The time for lethargy, and "it won't happen to me" is over.

Positive action is what is required - mass action - for the good of this planet...

  1. The climate of the earth is always changing. California was a desert at one time. If they would have built dams to care for the tremendous influx of people that came there (it is a welfare state) they would have water. Most of the water in Calif. runs out to the ocean. I have lived there and watched the mismanagement. As usual, only half of the story is presented.

  2. Thanks for posting this on your blog. What you say is very true. I live in the USA and many people have the opinion that "they will fix it", before it is to late, more lethargy.
Our real only hope is education of the masses though social media, the governments and news media will not do it. Unfortunately, it seems to me the masses do not want to believe the problem is real and hope it will just go away.

    1. Marlin - It's almost as though there is an ostrich mentality which has overtaken everyone. As long as they keep their heads buried in the sand, and all is well on their speck of the planet, who cares about the rest...?

A result of too many quick fixes being available...

  3. I can't believe there are still people out there that deny this is happening.
Or they argue---is it OUR fault or natural. Whatever it is --it IS happening and we darn well better get off our asses and prepare for change.
Perhaps they think someone will wave their magic wand ??????????

    1. Sue - what happened to my reply to you...????

No magic wand is gong to hep us this time. Quick fixes, to which modern mankind has become used to, are not sufficient. Those playing ostrich will find out that they can't escape.

The more of us that try and spread the word, hopefully the more people we reach - too late or not...

  4. Well, it's hard to get the average person to do much when the news is full of rich people filling up their swimming pools. California is hurting, no doubt of it. It's a combination of factors, including over population, poor water distribution resources, corruption and weather factors. There have been extreme droughts out there before, but this one is very severe.

    1. Harry - Bloody swimming pools. All they will be good enough for, whilst they last, is providing water to flush toilets. But once they become fetid pools, perhaps then they will finally be filled in and covered over.

Corruption - don't get me started on that. This country seems to be sinking into a morass and the obvious outcome now seems inevitable - that we will end up as just another African country, as opposed to the shining example we briefly were. I wonder if Mr Mandela is turning in his grave yet? We had such promise too...

  5. Also big issues around agriculture in California. Cheap water for growing almonds. And Nestle selling bottled water FROM the drought-stricken area.

    1. Diana - That's appalling of Nestle!! And almonds - everyone knows they are water hungry - why are they still growing them...? (http://grist.org/food/california-almonds-los-angeles-drought/)

  6. California--land of golf courses, swimming pools and large fountains. And now they have large marijuana farms competing for the water, and being owned by scofflaw potheads, if they can't get the water legally, they just illegally tap the canals for it and screw everyone else downstream.

Thank you for taking the time to comment - it makes my day and removes the "loneliness' of sitting at my screen blogging supposedly to myself ;) I try and reply as quickly as possible so please forgive me if sometimes my response is delayed.
